In 1850 . . . erosion of the banks of Frederick Brook at Hillsborough, Albert County, disclosed a large deposit of a unique mineral, called albertite.

In the mid-19th century, an asphaltic mineral with a high gas content was discovered here, which came to be known as albertite.
