Quotations

1963
An informal paper currency in the form of due bills, called "bons" (an abbreviation of the French "bon pour," and meaning that the notes were good for a specified value) began to be issued by merchants in Lower Canada.
1963
These "bons" not only contributed towards filling the urgent need for currency but also helped to pave the way for the subsequent introduction of bank notes.
