Here I was met by the famous monk Brother Wilfred, the originator of the first all-Canadian chicken "The Chantecler." It took from 1908 to 1918 of continuous experimenting to produce this superlative fowl. The breeds crossed to result in the Chantecler were the Cornish, White Leghorn, Rhode Island Red, Wyandotte and White Plymouth Rock.
