DCHP-3

dump-and-chase

DCHP-2 (Mar 2016)

Spelling variants:
dump and chase

n. Hockey

an offensive move in which a team shoots, "dumps", the puck into the other team's zone and then rushes, "chases", after it. See animated video.

Type: 5. Frequency The move implies a lot of forechecking and physical force, rather than skillful play and passing. Common in the 1980s and 1990s, dump-and-chase is a less common and somewhat rare strategy today, but some teams may employ it very effectively among a repertoire of moves (see, e.g. the 2011 quotation).
See also COD-2, s.v. "dump-and-chase", which is marked "Cdn Hockey".
