v. — Quebec, French relations
to adopt French as the official working language in an institution, such as a school or company.
Type: 3. Semantic Change — The term has specialized in focus and has come to mean not just 'to make French' more generally, but to promote French as the working language in an institution. As Chart 1, shows, the term is more than five times as frequent in Canada than in the US, though it is most frequent within Canada in the province of Quebec (see Chart 2).
