Spelling variants:
sun-burst

n. predominantly Inuit, North, Clothing

a fur trim on the hood of a parka; often used in compounds, as in sunburst parka (see Image 1).

Type: 3. Semantic Change Generally sunburst refers to a sudden flare of sunlight; however it appears that the term has come to be associated with fur trimming in Canada, due to the resemblance of the trimming to the sun.
