C-Town
DCHP-3 (Apr 2023)
Spelling variants:C-town, C Town
n. — Prairies, Informal
a nickname of Calgary, Alberta.
Type: 1. Origin — Much like the Toontown nickname for Saskatoon, the nickname C-Town for Calgary is primarily used by residents of the Prairie provinces, especially those of Alberta (see, e.g., both 2023 quotations). There may be a preference for the term C-Town in the rest of the country's sports reporting (see the 2003 and the 2011 quotations).
The rhyme between E-Town for Edmonton and C-Town for Calgary, Alberta's two largest cities, is likely another reason the nickname has found favour in that province.
